As revealed, Soneium’s vision is to “realize the open internet that transcends boundaries.” Chainlink, a prominent oracle network that provides blockchain solutions, is well-positioned to help Soneium realize its vision. Chainlink has secured collaborations with many industry leaders, such as Swift, Paxos, ANZ, and DTCC.

As mentioned in our earlier article, Chainlink recently hit a new milestone, with 10 new integrations of four services across 12 chains. These integrations and partnerships have granted Chainlink the needed diversity and experience to help Soneium achieve its goals.

The Soneium Genesis

Sony Block Solutions Labs created Soneium as an Ethereum next-generation L2 protocol. The new solution will leverage the tech giant’s global distribution network to introduce blockchain technology to users worldwide.

The blockchain aims to elicit feelings, stimulate creativity, and connect the Web3 ecosystem to the traditional Web2. Sony built Soneium based on the idea that blockchain technology should be easily accessible, expandable, effective, and able to address real-world issues.

Soneium is designed to be versatile, empowering developers, creators, and communities with a robust environment backed by scalable technology. Users can expect Soneium developers to create innovative applications and competitive features within the Ethereum layer 2 ecosystem. They can also anticipate a unique combination of gaming, entertainment, finance, and other possibilities.

In addition to developing Web3 applications, Soneium disclosed its intention to consider new services linked to businesses within the Sony Group. By doing this, Soneium hopes to create use cases that might interest people who have never used Web3 services.

Soneium has identified three basic values: emotions, creativity, and going mainstream. Speaking on Soneium’s launch, Jun Watanabe, Chairman of Sony Block Solutions Labs, says the business will work towards developing varied businesses. He added that the team will also provide innovative use cases to enhance users’ experience through Web3 technology.

Plans for the Soneium Testnet Launch

Preparations for a testnet launch, which will provide developers their first opportunity to work with Soneium directly, are already in place. In the coming days, clear instructions will be provided for testnet access, ensuring a smooth onboarding process for all interested developers.

After a successful testnet launch, Soneium plans to join Optimism’s Superchain to expand its ecosystem. Subsequently, initial developer tools and SDKs will be available, allowing innovators to start building on the L2.

Besides Chainlink, Sony Block Solutions Labs is collaborating with other reputable industry players for its upcoming testnet. These partners include Astar Network, Optimism, Alchemy Platform, Circle, and The Graph Protocol.
