Ronin Launches zkEVM Testnet With Polygon CDK Integration

Ronin, a blockchain for gamers, announced the launch of the zkEVM testnet. The official announcement of the zkEVM testnet comes a few days after Ronin unveiled its zkEVM. The team called this the first step towards introducing Layer-2 blockchains to the main network. When it launches, Ronin zkEVM will see builders leverage the Polygon Chain Development Kit (CDK) to create zero-knowledge (ZK) powered layer 2 chains on Ronin. Builders will also leverage the technology to permissionlessly deploy games, the Ronin team noted.

The zkEVM testnet will give developers the opportunity to test L2 on Ronin, access the block explorer, and query the RPC endpoint. In addition to using Polygon’s CDK to run L2, zkEVM allows game builders to use zero-knowledge proofs for scalability, opening up the ecosystem to more games and users. Validators will also be able to test RON on the zkEVM testnet by connecting the RON testnet from Saigon.

zkEVM also integrates Ronin incentive programs between L2 chains and the main network. For example, developers can only run the Ronin validator or start running their chain if they meet the 250k RON requirement. This economic activity is intended to increase the staking reward for RON delegators. Ronin expects zkEVM to launch on the mainnet by the first quarter of 2025, which will usher in a network that will further develop the blockchain gaming industry.
