Worldcoin’s WorldID to arrive on Solana via Wormhole grant

The Worldcoin Foundation has announced a $70,000 grant to Wormhole to support WorldID authentication on the Solana blockchain.

In a statement on June 27, Worldcoin said said the ID integration efforts will “equip the Solana ecosystem with a much-needed tool” to prove humanity.

The grant will award WLD25,000 to Wormhole.

Wormhole described the grant in more detail, stating that it will allow Solana-based protocols to seamlessly authenticate user IDs previously verified on the Ethereum blockchain.

To do this, Wormhole Queries in an Ethereum-Solana state bridge service will propagate the World ID state roots between chains. The state bridge service will monitor the World ID contract and securely transfer changes to Solana, where a smart contract stores the World ID state roots and validates withdrawal receipts.

Benefits of integration

Worhole described several benefits associated with the integration. The approach will enable new use cases and demonstrate the versatility of Wormhole’s multichain infrastructure.

Additionally, the integration aims to make verification easy for developers and ensure forward compatibility with future updates and improvements in verification methods.

The effort also aims to improve security and decentralization by ensuring identity verification is done in a way that protects privacy. It will also improve interoperability between the chains by allowing more decentralized apps to interact with identity verification systems on Ethereum.

Finally, the initiative aims to increase financial inclusion by supporting Worldcoin in providing universal access to the digital economy by serving ID users worldwide.

Other Worldcoin subsidies

The Worldcoin Foundation has announced 16 grants worth a total of WLD289,000.

Other grantees include Axiom, Proof of Passport, Farcaster Humaniser, Alphaday, Only Dust, Encode Club, zkSnap, TACEO, Cometh, Herodotus, World Poll, Agora, Fuzzing Labs, Satori and BBB & Company.

TACEO has previously contributed to the innovation of Worldcoin’s data collection.

The recipient projects are tasked with strengthening the Worldcoin ecosystem in a variety of ways, from research and development to educational and outreach efforts.
